Weight Training is crucial to strengthen your bones, muscles, ligaments and tendons.  All of which have a positive influence on your appearance and metabolic rate.  Strength training can positively effect your body composition. For example, if you loose 3 lbs. of body fat and gain 3 lbs. of muscle, you will weigh the same but have a leaner, firmer appearance.
